Credit Repair
A bad credit report can seriously hinder your life. It makes it difficult
if not impossible to secure credit from lenders. A bad
credit report makes it difficult to purchase a car, a house or acquire
a credit card. Fortunately if
you have a bad credit report there are methods available to help you improve
your credit rating.
Credit cards are the number one reason most consumers get into debt and
have bad credit reports. One of the first steps you can take to repair
your credit and get out of debt is to stop using your credit cards. If
you have more than one credit card you might consider closing the accounts
on all of your credit cards except one or closing all of them.
The credit companies ultimately want their money so most lenders will
work with the consumer to collect the debt. There are many credit counselors
and credit repair companies to
assist you in repairing your bad credit report. Personal
money management is something that most people are never taught; instead
we are just expected to be able to handle our financial affairs.
You will want to obtain a copy of your credit report to see exactly where
the credit report errors are and
to see precisely what needs to be rectified. If you learn about the methods
and know more about your credit report and understand how the credit process
work you may be able to understand how
to fix credit report yourself.
You will want to contact the credit card companies and any other lenders
you have outstanding balances with. Explain to them that you want to pay
off your balance and you are having difficulties. Let the lender know
that you are unable to pay it but you would like to know what your options
are. The companies will work with you because they want their money. It
only makes sense they would want to get it all or even some than take
a total loss. Try and set up a payment plan that is within your budget
so you can make the payments to the credit card company or lender.
A budget is very important to repairing your bad credit report. You need
to sit down and realistically itemize your income and your debts. Make
payment plans that you are able to adhere to. If you can only pay ten
dollars a month tell the credit card company all you can pay is ten dollars
a month. Do not over extend yourself because odds are that is what got
you into the predicament of a bad credit report in the first place. It
is very important you make the payments when you agree to make them.
Setting up a budget and eliminating your credit cards are two very important
steps to repairing your bad credit report. Another alternative is debt
consolidation. Many companies are available that offer credit
counseling and debt consolidation. It depends upon the seriousness
of your debt whether you need to consolidate or not. Debt consolidation
takes all of your outstanding balances and consolidates them into one.
You then make one monthly payment on the lump sum. The way most debt consolidations
work is that a company will pay off all your outstanding balances and
then you will make a payment to the consolidator to pay off the loan.
Other companies work directly with the credit card companies or other
creditors. If your bad credit report is hindering your ability to secure
credit and enjoy a healthy productive life a credit counselor should be
able to assist you in repairing your credit
report.
